Q: How old do you have to be to get tattooed at Nuclear Ink? A: You need to be 18 unless a parent or guardian gives consent and is present with you during the tattoo. We will tattoo a 16 or 17 year old with parental consent, but not below the elbow or above the neckline of a shirt. You will need a parent with you, and you both need a Government issued photo ID, and a birth certificate if last names or addresses are different. Q: Why won't you tattoo anyone younger than 16? A: We will tattoo a 16 or 17 year old with parental consent, but not younger than that. Before the age of 16 your body is still growing quite a bit, and a tattoo that looked good on you now will not look good in only a few years as it stretches or distorts as your body changes. Many people regret and often need to cover their early tattoos with a larger tattoo later on. We really hope that you will wait a few years to get tattooed. We know it is difficult to wait, but some things in life are worth waiting for. If you still want the same tattoo in a few years, you will know that it is the right choice for you. If you do decide to try to get tattooed sooner, please be careful. The artists who will accept younger customers are often people who are not operating in clean safe ways. Since we are and all custom tattoo shop, it tends to take the artist time to get your drawing finished and to your liking. For most designs, we will set up an appointment, and also give you a “drawn by” date, which is usually a week before your appointment. This allows you to come in and give a final approval on the design. If you need anything changed this gives the artist time to make the changes before your appointment. Depending on your design, and the artist’s schedule, there may be a chance to get in that day. This depends on what you are looking to get done. Come in with your idea, talk to our artists about what you want, and from there the artist can give you a price quote and we can find out where in the schedule we can work you in. Q: How do I set up my appointment? A: You can schedule an appt. with a $100 deposit (this comes off of the tattoo price). If you live in or near Omaha, come in to the shop and talk to us about the design. If you are out of town, we can try to communicate via e-mail or phone. We can then set up an appointment once the deposit is sent in the form of a money order. Once we have the tattoo planned out, our artists can draw something that will be exactly what you are looking for. We'll need to measure and see what area of the body it will be put on, so we can design it right. We don't charge for our drawing time, but do ask for the $100 deposit toward the tattoo in order to fit a drawing into our schedule. The deposit is non-refundable. Stop in and talk to us. Call (402)556-8500 if you have any questions. Q: How much will my tattoo cost? A: The price depends on the size, area of the body, intricacy or detail, and amount of shading or color involved. Since all of our tattoos are drawn individually for the client, we aren't able to estimate prices before a design is drawn out. Our shop minimum is $100, $100/ hr. with discounts on larger tattoos. Generally we prefer to quote a price for the entire tattoo rather than price it hourly. Q: Why don't you use glowing or black light reactive pigments? A: There are a few pigment companies that are lying about their products. They are claiming that these pigments are safe and approved by the FDA. They are indeed approved by the FDA, BUT NOT FOR USE ON HUMANS. They are the same pigments that people have been using for 10 or more years already, and they are toxic to the kidneys and liver. I don't foresee using anything like that on my clients. Q: Can you do this design that I printed off the internet? A: We are an all custom shop, we don't copy flash designs. If we did the design the way it is on the internet site you would find yourself having the exact same tattoo as hundreds of other people nationwide and even more worldwide. Also as you can see by the way the designers have their names on the demo copy, this is copy written art, you would have to purchase the rights to use it or we would be guilty of copyright infringement. Our artists can design you a completely unique tattoo, we don't charge any extra for this. If you like the design you have found, you will like even more what an artist can design specifically for you. Your artist can find out which elements you like about it and discuss design options. Q: I was at this other shop and the guy said he would do it cheaper. Why is the price different? A: As every artist is different, no two artists will do the tattoo in exactly the same way. Another artist might be planning a much more simplified version of the tattoo. If you are looking for the cheapest price, there are other tattoo shops that will cut corners and give you a cheaper price than we may, but if you are looking to get the best possible tattoo, then we would love to work with you. As the saying goes "Cheap work is rarely Good, Good work is rarely Cheap. Q: Why do you recommend lotion for tattoo aftercare instead of the oily stuff I used before? A: It is NOT advisable to use triple-antibiotic, Neosporin or Bacitracin on a tattoo. Many people have over the years, but we know more about proper healing now. Antibiotics like these are only to be used when there is an infection present; using it when there is not an infection causes healthy normal bacteria on your skin to be killed off, which increases the chances of outside bacteria getting in. Also many, many people are allergic to the neomycin in Neosporin due to its overuse over the years. We also do not recommend vitamin A&D ointment as it is also in a petroleum base, which can cause problems with proper healing. We recommend either Tattoo Goo Lotion or Curel fragrance free lotion. The advantage of lotion is that it is not in a petroleum base like Neosporin, A&D, or Bacitracin, and as long as you rub it in properly it lets the skin breathe. Never listen to your friends about tattoo care. If you have any questions call us at the shop. (402) 556-8500 Q: Why won't some tattoo artists work on the feet? A: The skin on the foot is often more difficult to tattoo and it is hard to get a tattoo to heal properly there, as tattoos on the foot tend to wear more heavily than most other areas of the skin. You also see this on elbows and such. It is necessary to not wear shoes or socks covering the tattoo for the full 2 weeks while it heals. Often people don't follow these instructions and find that they rub away part of the tattoo before it has a chance to heal. Once it has been healed properly, it still tends to rub more on shoes and fade a bit sooner than other skin areas. Often a tattoo on the foot will need re-colored sooner than other tattoos would. |
